Bluegrass Soccer Showdown Set for Spring

Lexington, KY - The Kentucky men’s soccer program and head coach Johan Cedergren have officially announced the five-match slate for the upcoming 2026 spring season, and one matchup stands above the rest.

The Wildcats will open the spring on February 27 against Lexington SC at Lexington Sporting Club Stadium at 7:30 p.m. This marks the third straight spring that Kentucky has faced the local USL Championship side in exhibition play.

For soccer fans across the state, this is more than just a preseason match.

Over the last decade, Kentucky has seen a major rise in professional soccer. Louisville City FC launched in 2014. Racing Louisville followed in 2019. The growth has been real, and the support has only gotten stronger. The cross-city rivalry in Louisville, known as the Commonwealth Cup, helped spark even more interest statewide.

Now, matchups like Kentucky vs. Lexington SC show how far the game has come in the Bluegrass.

This exhibition gives fans a chance to see high-level college talent go up against seasoned pros. It also keeps building the bridge between the college and pro game right here in Kentucky.

Spring soccer might not count in the standings, but it absolutely counts for the culture.

And in a state where the sport is growing fast, this one means something.
