RACERS STAY HOT HEADING INTO MARCH

VALPARAISO, IN. - Murray State Racers women's basketball closed the regular season in dominant fashion Saturday, defeating Valparaiso 100-68 at the CFSB Center.

The Racers wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out early and controlling the game with balanced scoring and strong defense. Murray State led 55-28 at halftime and kept the pressure on through the third quarter, scoring 32 points to push the lead out of reach.

Five Racers scored in double figures, showing the depth that helped Murray State finish the regular season 28-3 overall and 19-1 in the MVC.

Sharnecce Currie-Jelks led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds, shooting an efficient 8-for-13 from the field. Haven Ford added 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers and helping stretch the defense. Halli Poock continued to run the offense well, finishing with 18 points and nine assists.

Murray State’s offense was sharp throughout the afternoon, shooting 43.4% from the field and hitting 11 three-pointers. The Racers also controlled the glass with 54 rebounds, creating extra opportunities and limiting Valparaiso’s second chances.

Defense played a big role as well. Murray State held the Beacons to 34.7% shooting and forced tough looks throughout the game. The Racers also pushed the pace, scoring 27 fast-break points.

The win caps a remarkable regular season for Murray State, which enters the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed. With only three losses all year, the Racers now turn their focus to the postseason as they look to secure the conference tournament title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
