LEXINGTON, KY. - Kentucky football made Homecoming one to remember, taking down No. 10 LSU 35-34 in overtime Saturday night at Kroger Field. The Wildcats picked up their second straight overtime victory and moved up to No. 15 in the AP Top 25 as Week 7 approaches.

Kentucky came out swinging, and C.J. Baxter wasted no time making an impact. On the Wildcats’ first offensive play, Baxter broke free for a 77-yard run before scoring on the next play. He finished the night with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in overtime.

The Wildcats held a 21-17 halftime lead, but LSU battled back and took a 27-24 advantage late in the fourth quarter. Kentucky refused to let the game slip away. After the defense forced LSU to give the ball back, the offense drove into field-goal range, and Adam Zouagui connected from 33 yards with 12 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.

LSU scored first in overtime, but Kentucky answered with a touchdown by Baxter. Quarterback Kenny Minchey then kept the ball on the two-point conversion and ran into the end zone to secure the win.

Minchey finished with 246 passing yards, while the Wildcats’ defense came up with key stops when it mattered most. Kentucky also got a major boost from Brock Coffman, who returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The win moves Kentucky to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in SEC play, putting the Wildcats third in the conference standings. With a four-game winning streak and a spot in the national top 15, Kentucky has plenty of momentum heading into a road matchup with Oklahoma on October 17.

The Cats have shown they can handle pressure. Now, they’ll look to keep proving it as the SEC race continues.
