HILLTOPPERS OPEN 2026 WITH ROAD TEST AT NEVADA

RENO, NV - Western Kentucky football is ready to get the 2026 season started.

The Hilltoppers travel to Nevada on Saturday, Sept. 5, for their season opener at Mackay Stadium. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. CT, with the game airing nationally on CBS Sports Network.

WKU enters the season looking to build on a 9-4 record from 2025. Head coach Tyson Helton returns for his eighth season, but this year's team has plenty of new faces after several key players moved on.

One of the biggest questions is at quarterback. Sophomore Rodney Tisdale is expected to have the first opportunity after seeing action last season, while Florida State transfer Brock Glenn gives WKU another experienced option. Tisdale showed flashes in 2025, but the Hilltoppers will need consistent quarterback play throughout the season.

The offensive line is another major storyline. WKU brought in several transfers to rebuild the front, giving the group an important challenge right away against Nevada.

There are also plenty of weapons to watch in the passing game. KD Hutchinson returns after leading the Hilltoppers with 66 catches last season, while Prairie View A&M transfer Jyzaiah Rockwell joins the receiving room after a 74-catch, 1,161-yard season.

Defensively, WKU returns more experience and will look to keep opponents out of the end zone. The Hilltoppers were especially strong in red-zone defense last season.

Nevada gives WKU a tough road test to begin the year, but it is also the first opportunity for this new group to show what it can do.

The 2026 season starts Saturday night in Reno.
