PHILADELPHIA, PA. - Ian Wheeler is getting another shot in the NFL. The former Louisville Kings running back signed with the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad on Oct. 15 after helping lead the Kings to a UFL championship earlier this year.

Wheeler made his mark in Louisville during the team’s first season, finishing the regular season with 370 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 68 carries. He also contributed as a returner, recording 370 kickoff return yards on 13 attempts.

His biggest moment came in the United Bowl against the D.C. Defenders. Wheeler rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, earning game MVP honors as the Kings secured a 27-20 win and their first UFL title. His 44-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter helped put Louisville in front for good.

Now, Wheeler heads to Philadelphia after spending the 2026 preseason with the Buffalo Bills. His NFL journey began in 2024, when he signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Howard University. He also spent time on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad.

The Eagles’ signing gives Wheeler another opportunity to work toward an NFL roster spot. For Louisville fans, his move is another milestone for a Kings standout following the team’s championship run.
