Colonels Eye First NCAA Dance Since 2005

FORT MYERS, FL - Eastern Kentucky women’s basketball fell 69-63 to FGCU Thursday night at Alico Arena, but the Colonels (22-6, 13-2 ASUN) are still building toward something big this March.

EKU showed fight all night. Joseana Vaz led the way with 17 points, hitting three triples, while Althea Kara Angeles added 11. Kenleigh Woods and Liz Freihofer each chipped in 10. The Colonels forced 27 turnovers, turning them into 32 points, showing their defensive pressure remains a weapon.

FGCU had the edge on the boards and shot well from deep, but EKU never backed down. The team’s effort, from top scorers to role players, proves they compete together and keep pushing toward postseason goals.

With a first-round bye already secured in the ASUN Tournament, the Colonels are set up for a strong finish. Projections have them as a No. 15 seed in Region 3 (Fort Worth), which would mark their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.

Coach Todd and the team understand the stakes. One close loss doesn’t shake a season built on consistency, effort, and belief.
