CARD NATION HEADS TO NASHVILLE FOR A HUGE TOP-25 SHOWDOWN

NASHVILLE, TN - Louisville football is starting the 2026 season with one of the biggest challenges on its schedule.

The No. 24 Cardinals take on No. 9 Ole Miss Sunday night at Nissan Stadium in Nashville in the Music City Kickoff. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC and gives Louisville an early opportunity to make a statement against a top-10 SEC opponent.

Louisville is coming off a 9-4 season and enters 2026 with plenty of new pieces, including Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz at quarterback. Offensive coordinator Brian Brohm has made it clear that this is Kienholz's offense and his opportunity to lead the Cardinals.

The Louisville defense will have its hands full right away.

Ole Miss returns two of the biggest names in college football in quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy. Both are entering the season with Heisman Trophy buzz after helping lead the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals last season.

That makes this a major measuring stick for Louisville's defense, especially against an Ole Miss offense that can put pressure on a defense in multiple ways. Louisville's defense has been preparing for exactly this type of early challenge.

But Louisville will not be walking into Nashville alone.

With the Cardinals only a short trip from Nashville, expect Cardinal fans to make their presence known inside Nissan Stadium. This may be a neutral-site game on paper, but Louisville has a chance to make it feel much different.

For the Cardinals, this is the kind of game that can set the tone for an entire season.

A ranked opponent. A national stage. A chance to make a statement.
