Big E Locks No. 1 Seed, Eyes Strong ASUN Tournament Run

Richmond, KY - Eastern Kentucky women’s basketball has turned heads this season. With a 67-54 road win at Austin Peay, the Colonels clinched the 2026 ASUN Regular Season Championship and locked in the No. 1 seed for the ASUN Tournament, setting themselves up for a strong postseason run. Last night, they wrapped up their regular season with one last dominant road victory against Bellarmine, winning 100-43.

The tournament runs March 3-9 in Jacksonville, and EKU will start in the quarterfinals at 12:00 PM ET, facing the winner of the 8-seed vs. 9-seed matchup. With a first-round bye already secured, the Colonels have momentum on their side. Projections currently have them as a No. 15 seed in Region 3 (Fort Worth), which would mark their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.

Head Coach Greg Todd, an EKU alum from the class of 1983, is in his fourth season leading the team. Under his guidance, the Colonels have built discipline, confidence, and championship habits. Fans brought energy all season, creating an electric atmosphere the team hopes to carry into the postseason.

Two players have defined the Colonels’ season: Joseana Vaz (F) scored 411 points, averaging 14pts per game, while Althea Kara Angeles (G) anchored the defense with 63 steals and 301 points. Their performances have set the tone and kept EKU competitive in every matchup.

But this team’s success isn’t just about stars. Liz Freihofer scored 392 points, Kenleigh Woods added 325, and the full roster contributed in rebounds, assists, and defensive plays. Over the regular season, EKU outscored opponents 2282-1847, proving that “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” isn’t just a mantra, it’s a formula for winning.

Richmond, Kentucky, get ready. Big E is on top of the ASUN, and the road to March Madness begins in Jacksonville.
